Feeding Recommendations
Feed approximately 21 Kcal per lb. of dog weight for maintenance. Feed approximately 2-4 times this amount for gestation and growth.
Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center Recommends the following formula:
(Resting Energy Requirements)=RER. The amount of calories needed daily to perform essential Body functions such as digestion and internal organ functions. RER=70x(Dog Weight in Kg)^3/4
Ex: 5 year old, 20 lb. adult neutered dog: Convert 20 lb. to Kg. 20 divide by 2.205 =9.07 Kg. 70 x (9.07)^3/4 = 365.85 RER. 365.85 x 1.6 = This dogs daily caloric needs.
Neutered Adult = 1.6 x RER
Intact Adult = 1.8 x RER
Inactive/Obese prone = 1.2-1.4 x RER
Weight Loss = 1.0 x RER
Weight Gain = 1.2-1.8 x RER
Active/Working Dogs = 2.0-5.0 x RER
Puppy 0-4 Months = 3 x RER
Puppy 4 months to Adult = 2 x RER
Calories:
1522 Kcal per Kg. 690 Kcal per 16 oz. package (43 kcal per oz.)
All dogs are different in activity, breeding and daily exercise. We hope this guide will assist you in maintaining your dogs general health and weight.
